According to the agency, the operation took place two days ago and represents yet another example of the rapid evolution in the use of unmanned ground systems (UGVs) by the Ukrainian army.
Pioneering use in 2024
Ground robots were employed for the first time in December 2024, in the Kharkiv region. Since then, Kyiv has been testing different tactical applications for these vehicles.
One of the most notable episodes occurred in July, when Russian troops were captured without direct infantry involvement. The operation relied solely on aerial drones and ground robotic systems, after one of these vehicles detonated inside a bunker where Russian soldiers were hiding.

Drones in multiple roles
Both Ukraine and Russia have expanded the use of drones on multiple fronts of the conflict. These range from UGVs used to evacuate wounded soldiers to aerial drones adapted with grenade launchers, turning them into improvised attack platforms.
Experts assess that the trend is toward intensified use of unmanned vehicles, integrating ground and aerial operations, which could significantly alter the dynamics of the battlefield.
